Specific duties include but are not limited to: • Oversees public refuse drop off public scrap metal drop off household hazardous waste reuse center demolition transfer and disposal and public brush and compost drop off. • Separate and process separated materials and recyclables including manual sorting baling of separated recyclable materials and preparation of materials for transport. • Directs facility residential and commercial customers to appropriate disposal locations for the various waste streams. • Assist customers providing information regarding disposal standards or requirements. • Monitors materials received taking action to maintain disposal standards. • Frequent public contact and customer education required. • Work on sorting line manually sorting recyclables. • Operate baler store bales and load material for transport. This includes use of equipment such as skid steer small front-end loader and forklift. • Plow and remove snow. • Litter collection and general custodial duties necessary to maintain an attractive facility. Note: This position is subject to standby duty and call-back during non-regular working hours weekends and holidays. Employee should be able to respond within 60 minutes to staff the work site. Pay and Benefits: During the probationary period the pay rate for this position ranges from $14.73- $16.80 per hour. Upon successful completion of the probationary period this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $17.18- $20.15 per hour. This position offers you 21-24 hours per week with a schedule as follows: Thursday-Saturday 7am-3pm Memorial Day- Labor Day. Remainder of the year schedule is Thursday- Friday 7am-3pm and Saturday 8am- 1pm. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; or one to three months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license required. Solid Waste Facility Principal Operator Step 1 (Env-Sw 1600) certification required within one year of employment. The employee will frequently lift and/or move 10-25 lbs and occasionally 75-100 lbs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

SUMMARY

Oversees public refuse drop off; public scrap metal drop off; household hazardous waste reuse center; demolition transfer and disposal; and public brush and compost drop off. Separate and process separated materials and recyclables including manual sorting; baling of separated recyclable materials and preparation of materials for transport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs facility residential and commercial customers to appropriate disposal locations for the various waste streams maintain separation required for facility operation.

Assist customers providing information regarding disposal standards or requirements .

Monitors materials received taking action to maintain disposal standards.

Frequent public contact and customer education required.

Work on sorting line; manually sorting recyclables.

Operate baler; store bales; and load material for transport. This includes use of equipment such as skid steer; small front-end loader; and forklift.

Perform routine preventative maintenance of equipment. Equipment to be maintained includes large and small front-end loaders; skid steers; and forklifts.

Collect City recyclables.

Turn compost.

Plow and remove snow.

Possess familiarity with solid waste management including identification of hazardous waste; landfill management; composting processes and functions; recycling; and materials marketing.

Litter collection and general custodial duties necessary to maintain an attractive facility.

Directs facility residential and commercial customers to appropriate disposal locations for the various waste streams maintain separation required for facility operation.

Other duties and responsibilities as directed by Supervisor.

Note: A majority of daily duties involve repetitive motion activities. This position is subject to stand-by duty and call-back during non-regular working hours; weekends; and holidays. Position should be able to respond within 60 minutes (depending on weather conditions) to staff the work site

Customers

Solid Waste employees; private contractors; City employees and the public.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months" related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; short correspondence; and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information effectively in one on-one and small group situations to customers; clients; and other employees of the organization.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic familiarity with Windows environment and keyboard in order to operate computerized weight scale system.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10"s and lOO"s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement; volume; and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written; oral; or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES; LICENSES; REGISTRATIONS

Valid NH Driver License; required.

Solid Waste Facility Principal Operator Step 1 (Env-Sw 1600) certification; required within one year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to stand and walk; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or move 10 to 25 pounds and occasionally 75 to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth vision; and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level is moderate with occasional loud noise. This position frequently involves work in poorly heated areas and in outdoor weather conditions. There is routine exposure to moving mechanical parts and dust dirt and debris. There is occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Outdoor weather conditions vary depending on the season.
