Summary
Under general supervision, the Recycling and Solid Waste Site Technician for the County Recycling and Solid Waste Station provides services at the solid waste and recycling center for the benefit of citizens of Hays County. The work involves interacting with public, daily deposit calculations, bookkeeping, and maintaining the general appearance of the transfer station. This position facilitates the work of the County Recycling and Solid Waste Station and has an immediate impact on the operation of the solid waste and recycling center and the general public.

Supervision
Guidelines
The Recycling and Solid Waste Site Technician uses judgment in interpreting and adapting the guidelines to apply them to specific cases or problems. The employee may recommend changes or improvements to the guidelines. The employee may also determine which of several established alternatives to use. Situations to which the existing guidelines cannot be applied without significant deviations are referred to by the supervisor. This position also involves locating and selecting the appropriate guidelines such as Hays County policies, state and federal regulations, established precedents, and work directions. This position must have a strong work ethic. The Recycling and Solid Waste Site Technician must follow directions, meet deadlines, have good attendance, be punctual, keep promises, be reliable, and have a proper attitude.
Emotional Demands
This position must obtain, clarify or give facts to county employees and members of the outside public. The Recycling and Solid Waste Site Technician meets with contacts in a structured setting at the Hays County Recycling and Solid Waste locations. The contacts are generally cooperative; however, the employee may have to deal with some argumentative or emotional contacts.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a transfer station with noxious fumes and hazardous materials. The work involves working in outside weather conditions and in all types of weather around disposed products and is occasionally exposed to airborne particles, living or dead animals, insects, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee may be required to wear protective gear.
