Job Details
Remote
We are seeking an experienced Red Hat Linux (RHEL) Administrator to join our Managed Services organization. This role will support a self-hosted enterprise application environment with strict availability, performance, security, and operational reliability expectations. The RHEL Admin will be responsible for Linux server administration, patching, hardening, monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and production support across development, test, and production environments.
This is a client-facing managed services role, not a staff augmentation role. The ideal candidate takes proactive ownership of system health, identifies risks before they become incidents, documents clear resolution plans, and collaborates with database, application, infrastructure, and customer teams to maintain platform availability. The role includes participation in a scheduled on-call rotation for priority incidents, including after-hours support for P1/P2 events.
What is the role?
Linux Administration & Operations
Administer, monitor, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments supporting mission-critical enterprise applications
Perform system patching, OS upgrades, package management, configuration changes, maintenance windows, and post-change validation
Manage user access, sudo privileges, SSH configuration, service accounts, file permissions, and administrative controls in alignment with security and change management practices
Maintain core Linux services and system components, including systemd services, logs, cron, networking, firewalls, storage mounts, LVM, and certificate-related support
Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures by validating host readiness, service recovery steps, and operational runbooks
Platform Stability, Security & Performance
Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, disk utilization, memory, CPU, I/O, network connectivity, and service health across production and non-production environments
Diagnose and resolve Linux, virtualization, storage, networking, application runtime, and middleware issues that affect enterprise application performance
Apply security hardening practices for Linux servers, including vulnerability remediation, secure configuration baselines, access controls, and audit support
Troubleshoot Java/Tomcat or similar enterprise application runtime dependencies from the operating system layer as needed
Partner with database, application, monitoring, and customer infrastructure teams to resolve cross-platform performance or availability issues
Automation, Monitoring & Managed Services
Create and maintain scripts, automation, and repeatable procedures to improve operational consistency and reduce manual effort
Support monitoring, alerting, log review, and health check activities for Linux hosts and related application components
Participate in a scheduled 24x7 on-call rotation for P1/P2 incident response and escalated production support
Act as an escalation resource for tier 2/3 and advanced infrastructure incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning
Create and maintain runbooks, operational procedures, health check reports, change documentation, and knowledge articles
Communicate clearly with customer stakeholders, technical teams, and service delivery leadership during incidents, maintenance events, and ongoing operations
What experience do you need for success?
5+ years of hands-on Linux systems administration experience, with strong production support experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments
Experience supporting high-availability, business-critical, or SLA-driven enterprise environments
Demonstrated experience with Linux patching, troubleshooting, hardening, performance analysis, incident response, and operational documentation
Experience working in managed services, consulting, federal-adjacent, or customer-facing technical support environments preferred
Experience with self-hosted ServiceNow, enterprise workflow platforms, Java/Tomcat-backed applications, or MariaDB-backed application environments is a plus, but not required
Linux Expertise: Strong command of RHEL administration, package management, systemd, networking, storage, logs, shell scripting, access controls, and troubleshooting
Operational Ownership: Ability to move beyond reactive ticket handling and proactively manage platform health, risk, and reliability
Incident Management: Ability to respond calmly and effectively during high-priority incidents, establish action plans, and drive issues to resolution
Analytical Troubleshooting: Strong problem-solving skills across operating system, virtualization, storage, application, database, and network layers
Security Mindset: Practical understanding of Linux hardening, vulnerability remediation, least privilege, audit readiness, and controlled change execution
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication with technical teams, service delivery leaders, and customer stakeholders
Documentation Discipline: Strong ability to document procedures, root cause analyses, runbooks, maintenance steps, and recurring health checks
Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including RHEL 8/9 administration and production support
Shell scripting and automation; Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, or similar automation/configuration tools are preferred
VMware ESX/virtualized infrastructure experience or similar enterprise virtualization platforms
Monitoring, observability, and log management tools for operating system, application, and availability metrics
Enterprise application runtimes such as Java/Tomcat, reverse proxy or load balancer integrations, and certificate/keystore support are helpful
Ticketing, change management, incident management, and knowledge management systems; ServiceNow experience is a plus
What will you bring with you?
Red Hat certifications such as RHCSA or RHCE are preferred, but not required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field preferred or equivalent professional experience
The starting pay range for this role is $120,000.00 - $130,000.00. Full time employees will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance in addition to discretionary bonuses. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including actual work location, relevant experience (internal or external), technical skills, and other qualifications.
