NATURE OF WORK Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Adult Services, the PT Reference Librarian Adult Services Librarian interprets user needs, provides reference, readers' advisory, referral services and assistance with technology to patrons. In addition, this individual may be assigned additional responsibilities related to the department's programming and marketing, interlibrary loan and special collections. The position requires the use of independent judgment, initiative, maturity, observation, and communication skills. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Provides reference and readers' advisory services.
- Operates and maintains library equipment; trains the public and troubleshoots as needed.
- Works collaboratively with other members of Adult Services staff to maintain print and non-print collection resources for Adult Department, including evaluating materials for repair and assisting with regular weeding of outdated and damaged items.
- Interacts with a variety of people while providing customized and empathetic customer service.
- Opens and closes building. Responds to emergency building issues.
- Manages the behavior of patrons to maintain a positive, safe, and useful space for patrons.
- Maintains knowledge of library services and changes within the industry.
- Performs basic circulation and cataloging procedures.
- Maintains records, logs, or other statistical information as directed by supervisor.
- Effectively works with multiple age groups in different departments as needed.
- Utilizes SWPL’s integrated library system software and public catalog website at a high competency.
- Maintains familiarity with library policies and procedures. Enforces library policies as needed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS - Creates curated themed book displays and maintains end caps.
- Create printed graphics to post in library on doors, front entrance board and Friends Room case.
- Assists with fulfillment / interlibrary loan services.
- Makes and monitors room reservations as needed. Assists patrons using the spaces as needed.
- Registers patrons for programs.
- Create readers advisory materials.
- Keeps aware of other related resources available in the area and utilizes opportunities for collaborations, partnerships and referrals.
- As a member of the library's professional staff, makes recommendations for changes in library policies and procedures.
- Receives and responds to general information requests by telephone or in writing.
- Monitors supplies for reordering.
- Actively pursues professional growth opportunities, including keeping current of new library trends through readings and workshops.
- Performs related work and assists with special projects as required.
