    Job Description

    Under the supervision of the Clinical Services Director, the Referral Authorization Coordinator will schedule patient appointments and medical diagnostic tests for Tulane University Employees and Tulane University Hospital and Clinic Employees and their dependents; verify insurance eligibility and benefits; obtain prior certification and authorization for services and procedures; coordinate patient billing and collections; perform patient information data entry.

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Three years of experience using an electronic patient account system for third party insurance eligibility verification
    • Three years'' patient registration and scheduling experience working with eClinicalWorks and/or IDX
    • Working knowledge of insurance pre-certification, reimbursement, and denial processes
    • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Ability to effectively interpret and follow oral and written instructions
    • Ability to work on multiple tasks with multiple groups independently and concurrently, and to set priorities toward the completion of work procedures
    • Ability to use designated reference materials and follow detailed instructions
    • Ability to work independently and use appropriate judgment in relating detailed policy and procedure instructions to the individual patient registration situation
    • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints
    • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care
    • Professional attitude and appearance
