Position Overview:
The Referral Coordinator plays a key role in supporting patient access and care coordination by managing referrals, authorizations, and communication between patients, providers, and insurance plans. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced medical office environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and process patient referrals, including scheduling referral appointments and tracking referral status
Submit referral forms and documentation to appropriate departments, including Health Information Management
Enter and maintain authorizations and referral data accurately within internal systems
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits, including HMO plans
Manage a daily workload of approximately 40-50 referrals, primarily web-based, with occasional outbound calls to insurance providers
Contact patients to schedule appointments, provide updates, and assist with questions or requests
Answer inbound calls and provide professional, courteous customer service
Assist with medical record requests and release of information processes
Maintain compliance with all confidentiality and privacy standards
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a medical office, call center, or healthcare customer service role required
Experience with referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance verification (HMO experience preferred)
Familiarity with medical terminology
Strong data entry and Microsoft Office skills
Excellent communication and customer service skills, both over the phone and in person
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Experience with EMR systems such as NextGen is a plus
Knowledge of medical records processes, including release of information, preferred
Additional Information:

Open to cross-training and supporting other administrative functions as needed

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
