Refinery Supervisor

I. Position Description

Supervises and coordinates the activities of the refinery shift employees to accomplish the refining, casting, and storage of various lead alloys in a safe, clean, and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Trains, communicates, and enforces the safety and hygiene policies and methods to employees. Evaluates tasks to recommend safe work methodology. Explains company policies and labor contract provisions to workers and enforces safety regulations.
• Reviews production schedules to estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production and safety schedules. Interprets specifications and job orders in order to assign duties to workers. Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and the safety and hygiene of the department. Suggests changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency and safety of shop, department, and work crew.
• Analyzes and assists in the resolution of work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Coordinate departmental activities with other departmental supervisors.
• Complies with all environmental, health, safety and housekeeping programs.
• Performs other duties, as assigned.

A. PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to direct shift operations, conduct crew meetings and training.
• Leadership skills and self motivated
• Good interpersonal communications skills; written and verbal

B. POST-HIRE TRAINING

• Environmental training applicable to the job

• Safety training for applicable equipment

• Job instructional training

• Quality system familiarization

• ISO 14001 awareness, EMS objectives and targets, plant significant environmental impacts

• OHSAS 18001 Awareness, OH&S-MS Objectives and Goals, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control

• Able to obtain a CPR Certificate and join the Confined Space Team

IV. Physical Requirements & Work Environment

A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

B. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works in high precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

• If duties require entry to an arsenic or cadmium-controlled area, appropriate respiratory protection must be worn.
