Build, Validate, and Lead — From CAD to the Melt Floor

Do you move comfortably between SolidWorks models and the hum of a working shop? Are you energized by solving thermal-mechanical challenges and coordinating people, materials, and compliance? If so, this role is for you.

What you will do

  • Engineer glass melting equipment using SolidWorks and validate designs via flow, heat transfer, and fatigue analysis tools.
  • Generate complete 2D drawings, BOMs, and Job Instruction Documents to support consistent, high-quality builds.
  • Diagnose and resolve melting performance issues related to equipment fabrication and maintenance.
  • Oversee a unionized team of welders, masons, and CNC operators to achieve safety, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Guide installation activities and support technicians through start-up qualifications.
  • Execute First Article Inspections (FAI) and ensure compliance through Certificates of Conformance (CoCs).

Material stewardship and coordination

  • Act as business liaison to Germany-based central services for all platinum-related topics.
  • Serve as the business custodian for platinum, functioning as the legal representative with government agencies and financial auditors.
  • Procure raw earth/noble materials (including but not limited to platinum and iridium), refractory and insulation supplies, as well as CNC tools and mold-making equipment.
  • Use SAP to organize and maintain shop storage areas and inventory accuracy.
  • Forecast platinum requirements, consumption, and recycling strategies to support availability and cost control.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Welding Engineering—or a combination of education and 7+ years of related experience.
  • 1+ year of SolidWorks design/modeling, including:
    • Working knowledge of FEA (flow/thermal/fatigue)
    • 2D drawings and assembly development
    • BOM creation and maintenance
    • Design tolerancing principles
  • 1+ year in welding technology (preferred).
  • 1+ year in refractory cutting, molding, and application (preferred).
  • 1+ year in CNC programming and/or tool-and-die experience.
  • 1+ year of supervisory or leadership experience (preferred).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Basic exposure to SAP and/or Oracle.

Proficiencies

  • Welding setups for production
  • Blueprint reading

How you’ll stand out

You’re as comfortable validating designs on-screen as you are coaching skilled trades on the floor. You think ahead—about material availability, platinum stewardship, and documentation—so operations never miss a beat.
