Industrial Refrigeration Technician – Temp to perm

Overview
Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Refrigeration Technician performs skilled mechanical and electrical work
involving refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This role requires the ability to diagnose equipment issues, perform repairs, install new systems and components, and conduct preventive maintenance with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate exercises sound judgment, works independently on routine assignments, collaborates effectively with production teams, and may provide guidance to less experienced technicians as needed.
Occasional overtime, weekend work, or emergency response may be required to support production schedules and customer commitments.
Responsibilities:
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and service refrigeration, HVAC, and environmental control systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system failures using testing equipment and technical documentation.
- Repair or replace compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, pumps, thermostats, pressure controls, expansion valves, solenoids, piping, fittings, and related components.
- Perform leak detection, pressure testing, evacuation, charging, and recovery of refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections on refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Install refrigeration piping and perform brazing, soldering, and mechanical connections.
- Verify proper system operation through testing, adjustment, and calibration.
- Maintain accurate service records and complete required documentation.
- Work closely with engineering, production, quality, and manufacturing personnel during equipment installation and troubleshooting.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Provide guidance and training to helpers or junior technicians when assigned.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Follow all Company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Immediately identify, correct, or report unsafe conditions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality.
- Support the Sea Box Quality Management System (ISO 9001), including performing self-inspections and maintaining quality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC principles.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Knowledge of refrigeration electrical controls, motors, contactors, relays, and control circuits.
Ability to safely recover, evacuate, and charge refrigerant systems.
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, testing instruments, and refrigeration service equipment.
Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and safe work practices.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Minimum of 2–5 years of refrigeration, HVAC, or mechanical repair experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification required or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
Technical or vocational training in HVAC/Refrigeration preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces
• Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
• Use hand and power tools safely
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions
• Must be able to perform essential job functions in a constant state of alertness while working safely
