POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Refueling & Remote Handling Engineer to join a high-impact team developing next-generation specialized equipment and servicing tools. In this role, you will lead the design, analysis, and integration of remotely operated, tele-operated, and robotic tooling systems used for critical module disassembly, inspection, and maintenance operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Robotics & Tooling Design: Design, develop, and review complex mechanical handling systems, automated tooling, robotic equipment, and control system interfaces.

• Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate with core component design, civil/structural, and systems engineering teams to ensure tooling interfaces meet all functional, physical, and performance requirements.

• Design Documentation & Compliance: Prepare, check, and review engineering drawings, design specifications, reports, system descriptions, and technical calculations.

• Operational Planning: Partner with Operations to establish optimized work sequences, handling procedures, and integration schemes for remote equipment deployment.

• Vendor & Procurement Support: Support equipment fabrication, procurement, testing, and vendor integration to ensure high-quality, reliable end products.

• Standards & Process Improvement: Help maintain engineering design standards, solve complex technical challenges using innovative approaches, and streamline tooling development processes.

WHAT YOU BRING

Qualifications & Experience:

• Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university (ABET preferred). Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

• Experience: 5+ years of full-time, professional engineering experience focused on mechanical handling equipment, automated systems, or custom tooling design.

• Design & Documentation: Demonstrated experience executing engineering design processes and preparing/reviewing technical specifications, calculations, and fabrication drawings.

• Industry & Security Requirements: Must be eligible to work under U.S. Department of Energy (10 CFR Part 810) regulations.

• Preferred Background: Prior experience designing equipment for operating nuclear, hazardous, or high-reliability extreme environments (a plus, but software/automated tooling experience is highly valued).
