Definition
Under general direction, is responsible for supervising the operational functions within the transfer station; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Assigns crews and routes based upon available resources;
Adjusts routes, crews, and truck assignments based on tonnage data and available resources to ensure the daily collection of refuse;
Investigates property damage, accidents, and injuries; prepares reports based on factual investigations;
Investigates service requests received from the 311 Service Center and initiates corrective action;
Investigates employee problems and complaints; conducts preliminary conferences for violation of rules;
Inspects collection routes to ensure refuse is collected in conformance to policies and procedures;
Supervises the maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles and coordinates repair with Fleet Management and/or outside repair shops;
Determines the priority of vehicle repair; maintains appropriate vehicle repair reports;
Coordinates personnel transactions, overtime, vacation schedules, and leaves of absence for a district in order to ensure adequate staffing;
Prepares and conducts performance appraisals for direct report employees; reviews supervisors' performance appraisals for subordinate employees;
Supervises the preparation of various records and reports such as trip sheets, overtime reports, daily route status reports, accident and property damage reports, and 311 service requests;
Assists in the preparation of various reports for administration;
Assists in supervising the maintenance of the transfer station;
Conducts training and orientation for new personnel;
Acts as Refuse Collection District Manager in his or her absence.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of the twelfth school grade and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth-grade completion requirement.
Possession of a valid driver's license.

The examination process will consist of a forced-choice multiple-choice Experience Evaluation weighted 100%.
The exam is expected to be administered in October 2026. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidates name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
