Come join our team!The Region Safety Manager (RSM) is responsible for leading, implementing, and sustaining safety programs across assigned hauling, landfill, recycling, and transfer station operations within the region. This role ensures regulatory compliance, reduces risk, drives accountability, and promotes a proactive safety culture aligned with company standards and federal, state, and local regulations. The RSM partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, HR, and Corporate Safety to reduce injuries, vehicle incidents, and equipment‑related hazards while developing strong front‑line safety leadership.Responsibilities Manage the day‑to‑day safety operations of the region/location and provide leadership and support to managers in ensuring safety standards are metDevelop, implement, direct, and monitor safety initiatives to promote and create a safe working environmentUncover and promote growth and continuous improvement opportunities to safetyDirect and facilitate accident investigation process, root cause analysis & follow‑up for motor vehicle and industrial situations and oversee closure of corrective actionsPlan and administer departmental budget and maintain cost effectivenessConduct ongoing health & safety inspections of facilities, operations, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance of Corporate Safety, environmental, and governmental (DOT, OSHA, local agencies) policies and regulationsMaintain a close working relationship with Human Resources and Worker's Compensation administrationInteract daily with sub‑contracted employees and services to ensure DOT compliance where applicableWork cross‑functionally to develop safety programs and awarenessAnalyze data trends to create action plans for regionLead and conduct thorough incident investigations, provide coaching, training, and technical support to facility safety personnel and field‑based employeesReview trends create strategic plans for improvementProvide leadership and exhibit professional conduct and open communication with internal and external customersFormulate short‑ and long‑term goals and region action plans with the Area Safety Manager and the Regional Vice PresidentServe as the primary subject matter expert and point of contact for regulatory agencies during inspections, inquiries, and reportingPrepare and present reports as necessaryEnsure compliance with ELDT, Smith System, defensive driving, and required trainingManage and mentor a team of site‑level safety professionals, providing guidance, professional development, and performance managementThis role requires a safety professional with a passion for health and safety excellence, continuous improvement, and building strong relationships across multiple sitesPerform other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibility This position will manage 1‑10 employeesThis position will not oversee and direct other managersSkills & Abilities Ability to travel frequently within assigned regionExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent computer skills; proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications; Power BI is a plusProven track record of successful project and personnel management as well as leading teams to meet/exceed goalsMust possess strong planning/organizational and time management skillsKnowledge of the waste industry and hauling operations is preferredExperience & Knowledge Waste industry experience is a plusUnderstanding of DOT and OSHA requirements is required5+ years experience in keeping detailed and accurate records in a safety environment5+ years experience in reading & interpreting federal, state and local Safety regulationsMust have a strong background in dealing with people under difficult circumstancesOSHA 500 Certification requiredOSHA 30 hourBachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or Business (preferred)Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT/FMCSA regulations, Workers Compensation processesPhysical Requirements in a Regular Workday Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbsRarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbsFrequently working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditionsFrequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matterRarely stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawlingRarely climbing and/or balancingContinuously sitting/standing/walkingAdditional Working Conditions/Aspects Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areasExposure to residential and commercial wasteAbility to travel between offices, as requiredAbility to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as neededAbility to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidaysMust be available for 24‑hour emergency callsLegally eligible to work in the United StatesValid driver's license (if applicable)Must successfully complete pre‑employment testingMust be able to read and speak the English languageThis job description is intended to describe the general nature, complexity, and level of work to be performed by employees assigned to this position and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required.
