Job Title: Regional Account Director

Job Summary
The Regional Account Director is responsible for developing and executing strategic business growth initiatives that expand San Diego Blood Bank’s market presence, strengthen customer relationships, and achieve revenue objectives across assigned territories and service lines.

 

This position serves as the primary external representative for San Diego Blood Bank, promoting the organization’s portfolio of blood products, transfusion services, biotherapies, cellular therapy products, laboratory services, and other healthcare solutions. The Regional Account Director develops new business opportunities while serving as the strategic relationship manager for existing customers and partners.

 

Working collaboratively with Hospital Services, Operations, Manufacturing, Medical, Laboratory Services, Quality, and Executive Leadership, this position ensures customer needs are aligned with organizational capabilities and strategic priorities. The Regional Account Director is accountable for achieving revenue goals through business development, customer retention, contract management, and long-term partnership development.

Responsibilities

Business Development and Revenue Growth 

·       Develop and execute strategic territory and account plans to achieve annual revenue and growth objectives.

·       Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective customers and strategic partners. 

·       Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities across San Diego Blood Bank’s portfolio of products and services.

·       Conduct customer meetings, presentations, and educational programs to promote San Diego Blood Banks’s products, services, and capabilities.

·       Prepare proposals, pricing strategies, and service agreements in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

·       Negotiate agreements that support both customer satisfaction and organizational objectives.

·       Achieve assigned revenue, growth, and business development goals.

 

Strategic Account Management

·       Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned hospital systems, healthcare systems, biotechnology companies, research organizations, and other strategic customers.

·       Develop long-term account strategies that strengthen customer relationships and expand utilization of San Diego Blood Bank products and services.

·       Conduct routine business reviews with customers to evaluate service performance, identify opportunities, and address concerns.

·       Coordinate contract renewals, service expansions, and implementation of new programs.

·       Monitor customer satisfaction and work collaboratively with internal departments to resolve issues and improve service delivery.

Market Development and Strategic Planning

·       Monitor industry trends, customer needs, and competitive activity within assigned markets.

·       Identify emerging business opportunities and recommend strategies that support organizational growth.

·       Represent San Diego Blood Bank at professional conferences, industry meetings, customer events, and community activities.

·       Participate in developing new service offerings and market expansion initiatives.

Cross-Functional Coordination

·       Partner with Hospital Services, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Medical, Laboratory Services, Finance, and other departments to ensure successful implementation of customer agreements and services.

·       Communicate customer needs, market trends, and operational requirements to internal stakeholders.

·       Support implementation of new products, services, and organizational initiatives.

·       Coordinate customer onboarding and transition of new services while maintaining strong communication throughout implementation.

Performance and Reporting

·       Maintain accurate customer information, sales activity, forecasts, and pipeline data within the organization’s CRM or customer management systems. 

·       Monitor revenue performance, account growth, and contract compliance.

·       Prepare regular reports summarizing business development activities, customer trends, and revenue performance.

·       Utilize performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and business growth.

Understand and adhere to the policies and standards as developed as part of the San Diego Blood Bank Compliance Program.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in business development, strategic account management, healthcare sales, or related business leadership.
  • Demonstrated success managing large customer accounts and complex sales or service agreements.
  • Experience working with hospitals, healthcare systems, biotechnology companies, research organizations, or other related healthcare markets.
  • Knowledge of blood banking, transfusion medicine, laboratory services, cellular therapies, biologics, or other regulated healthcare environments preferred.
  • Experience working with Group Purchasing Organizations, Integrated Delivery Networks, and hospital systems is highly desirable.

  • Ability to analyze market trends and develop territory growth strategies.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, Microsoft Office, and business analytics tools.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% or more as business needs require.
