    Job Summary

    Director Laboratory Region plans, directs, and coordinates laboratory services at Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). These services perform tests for diagnosing and treating illnesses in BSWH hospitals, clinics, and facilities. Plans and directs programs for laboratory practice efficiencies, standardization, quality, productivity, and patient safety. Ensures diagnostic tests are accurate and quality control protocols are followed. Develops a system-wide approach to managing BSWH clinical laboratories. Establishes policies and procedures for laboratory practice and monitors compliance. Advises BSWH leadership on laboratory practice and aligns with business goals. Partners with clinical operations and leadership to improve laboratory care and patient care quality. Implements best practices and ensures regulatory compliance. Directs laboratory services, supports patient service delivery, educates staff, and monitors the work environment. Works with leadership on growth strategies, targets, and outcome improvement.

    • Makes final judgments on operational matters and ensures goals are met.
    • Recommends policies and organizational changes for the area.
    • Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual goals.
    • Plans and directs department operations, handling staffing, processes, budgets, and costs.
    • Manages and advises subordinates to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance.
    • Oversees a larger, more complex organization or area than a manager.
    • Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to them.

    Essential Functions of the Role

    • Directs laboratory and pathology services of assigned areas of responsibility for BSWH.
    • Recommends and implements the strategic and operational plans and priorities for laboratory services, ensuring alignment with BSWH overall business goals.
    • Manages daily operations of the laboratory and pathology service areas. Ensures smooth and accurate specimen collection, processing, testing, and result reporting.
    • Monitors and approves all purchases of supplies, capital equipment, invoice payments to laboratory services.
    • Directs laboratory business practices to ensure efficient and accurate patient and institutional fees and coding.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Facilitates and manages approved laboratory projects and initiatives, including productivity, efficiency, and quality improvement efforts.
    • Produces laboratory financial and statistical reporting, including monthly responsibility reports, laboratory charge reports, and revenue reports.
    • Manages improvement teams to focus on key areas of laboratory and pathology services. This includes diagnostic services, medical review, and quality assurance.
    • Partners with other laboratory directors to achieve clinical integration, standardization, compliance, and scalability.

    Key Success Factors

    • Bachelor''s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred. Master''s degree preferred.
    • 3+ years of operations experience in laboratory, pathology, healthcare, or related area.
    • Experience in a leadership role preferred.
    • Detailed knowledge of laboratory operations, with ability to develop laboratory quality management programs.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinicians, and leadership.
    • Laboratory certification preferred in one of the following: MT, MLS, CHT, CHS, CG, CT, HT, HTL. ASCP Technologist/Specialist options include: BB, C, CG, CT, H, M, MB, SBB, SC, SCT, SH, SM, SCYM, SMB.
