Regional Float Psychotherapist – SNF & Nursing HomesPosition DetailsEmployment Type: Full-Time Exempt Coverage Model: Skilled nursing facilities within a regional territory Program OverviewThe Float Psychotherapist Program provides outpatient-style psychotherapy services embedded directly within nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The Regional Float Psychotherapist supports residents experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment disorders, trauma history, and behavioral distress commonly seen in long-term care settings. This role is essential for improving resident quality of life, reducing behavioral escalations, supporting facility staff, and decreasing unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations. Key Responsibilities- Provide psychotherapy services to residents in skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes
- Support residents experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and adjustment disorders
- Conduct clinical assessments and ongoing psychotherapy interventions
- Assist with behavioral stabilization and crisis prevention
- Develop and support resident-centered care plans
- Collaborate with facility staff regarding resident mental health concerns
- Maintain timely, compliant clinical documentation
- Support reduction of psychiatric hospitalizations and crisis events
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and care coordination
Coverage Model (Float Role)The Regional Float Psychotherapist provides coverage for: - Therapist PTO and leave of absence coverage

- Urgent resident referrals and crisis intervention needs
- Multi-site regional travel across SNF and long-term care settings
Interdisciplinary Collaboration- Directors of Nursing (DONs), RNs, and LPNs
- Social workers and discharge planners
- Physicians, nurse practitioners, and PMHNPs
- Activity directors and care teams
- Hospice and palliative care providers
- Family members and legal guardians
Typical Weekly Schedule- Monday: SNF A
- Tuesday: Nursing Home B
- Wednesday: SNF C
- Thursday: SNF A follow-up visits
- Friday: Coverage, documentation, and care planning
Schedules are typically released 1–2 weeks in advance. Occasional adjustments may occur based on facility needs. Productivity Expectations- Daily Patient Encounters: 6–10+
- Documentation Completion: Same day
- Follow-Up Compliance: 95%+

Required Qualifications- Master's degree or doctoral degree in Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field
- Active and unrestricted clinical licensure in North Carolina
Preferred LicensureBecause this role serves short-term and long-term care populations across SNFs and nursing homes, the following licensures are strongly preferred: - Licensed Psychologist (PsyD or PhD)
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) (North Carolina)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
