    About the job

In this role, you will be responsible for defining the strategic goal for the US West region Cloud government affairs, managing a team of regional managers to execute on complex, cross-functional policy objectives. You will serve as the primary architectural guide for state-level cloud and infrastructure policy, orchestrating engagement strategies that transcend individual market needs to deliver cohesive regional impact. You will direct the strategy for high-stakes, multi-year initiatives, ensuring that all regional efforts align with long-term business growth and risk mitigation objectives. A critical component of this role is fostering cross-Google connectivity, acting as a catalyst by aligning internal stakeholders across teams to advance Google's Cloud business and technical infrastructure.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company's engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others' views and opinions, and distill and share the company's perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

    • Manage and coordinate a network of contract lobbyists and public affairs firms to advance proactive policy engagement.
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with governors' offices, state legislators, local elected officials, state agencies, local permitting authorities, and trade associations.
    • Shape and advance the company's positions on key issues, including government procurement, energy, tax policy, permitting, and infrastructure development. Track and analyze legislation, regulation, and local policy trends that could affect the company's operations, investment, or growth.
    • Partner with internal technical teams and external upstream and downstream stakeholder groups to advance technical infrastructure needs for our users and customers, ensuring a unified approach regarding economic, social and environmental benefits of Google Cloud investments in new and existing markets.
