    Job Description

    Pfeiffer University invites applications for the Director of the Regional Literacy Training Center, a grant-funded initiative focused on strengthening early literacy instruction and teacher preparation across rural North Carolina. The Center supports aspiring and in-service K-5 educators through evidence-based reading instruction, sustained professional development, and instructional coaching grounded in the science of reading.

    The Director provides leadership for Center operations while also serving as a faculty member with a teaching load in teacher education or a related program.

    This position is an 11-month, full-time position.

    About the Center

    The Regional Literacy Training Center is designed to address critical literacy needs in rural communities where many students are not reading on grade level by third grade. It emphasizes sustained, practical, classroom-centered training that builds teacher capacity and improves student outcomes.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Lead strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Regional Literacy Training Center
    • Develop and deliver high-quality professional learning, coaching, and workshops for regional educators.
    • Build and sustain partnerships with rural school districts and community stakeholders
    • Support alignment between Center initiatives and teacher preparation programs
    • Oversee grant operations, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance
    • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses In literacy, education, or related fields
    • Contribute to service, scholarship, and program development consistent with faculty expectations

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    May supervise work-study students, student interns, teaching assistants, or field instructors

    Work Environment/Dynamics

    • Combination of classroom and clinical field placement settings
    • Frequent engagement with local educational agencies
    • Collaborative and interdisciplinary academic culture
    • Emphasis on experiential and hands-on learning
    • Masters degree in Literacy Education, Elementary Education or related field.
    • Demonstrated expertise in early literacy and evidence-based reading instruction
    • Experience working with K-5 educators and/or teacher preparation programs
    • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
    • Experience in delivering content in live and virtual learning spaces

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in a field appropriate to the position
    • Experience in rural education settings
    • Background in instructional coaching or professional development design
    • Experience in online courses or workshop development
    • Experience managing grant-funded programs
