This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Inpatient Services, 7901 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Registered Dietitian, working under limited supervision, you will plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition services for a designated area. You will assess the nutritional status of individuals of the designated population. You will serve as a liaison for Food and Nutrition Services and serve as a member of the health care team.

Responsibilities for the Registered Dietitian:

  • Assess nutritional status of individuals by obtaining and/or evaluating anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, clinical, dietary, economic and social data.
  • Provide all appropriate related documentation.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and interpretation of nutrition policies, procedures and standards of care within areas of responsibility. Serve as contact person for specialized nutrition services within a designated area.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews, evaluate outcomes and recommend or implement cooperative action when necessary.
  • Provide consultation and assistance to medical and other professional personnel on the diagnosis and treatment of nutrition disorders. Provide in-service training for staff within a specialized program or units of state agencies.
  • Maintain appropriate credentials for practices; includes developing and maintaining age-specific competencies.
  • Participate in the orientation and professional development of nutrition staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department
  • Provide services in a pleasant, helpful, and positive manner to demonstrate positive customer service.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A master's degree and registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian or registration eligible. Or a bachelor's degree with professional clinical or public health experience and registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian.

Additional Requirements

  • Commission on Dietetic Registration RD credential and South Carolina Dietitian license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A masters degree in public health nutrition, community nutrition, dietetics or nutrition with 3 years of experience in a related field or a bachelors degree in nutrition dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical public health or institutional setting or 4 years experience in a related field.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

This position is considered an essential position in case of an emergency.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of the principles of health practices and administration; and of education principles and methods as applied to health nutrition.
  • Ability to plan, implement, supervise and evaluate nutrition programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare providers, patients and families.
