Responsibilities

The Registered Dietitian (RD) plays a vital role in supporting healthy pregnancies and improving outcomes for both parent and baby through compassionate, patient-centered nutrition care. This position provides comprehensive nutrition assessment, education, and intervention for diverse patient populations, with a strong focus on prenatal care within the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP). The RD designs and implements nutrition education programs, communicates critical nutrition information to care teams, and helps advance the mission of Vista Community Clinic improving maternal and infant health outcomes in the community. Working with Medi-Cal-eligible pregnant individuals, the RD develops personalized nutrition care plans that reflect each patient’s medical needs, cultural background, and personal preferences. Through one-on-one counseling and education, the RD empowers patients and their families to make informed choices that promote healthy pregnancy weight gain, manage nutrition-related conditions such as gestational diabetes, and support optimal fetal development. As a key member of a multidisciplinary care team, including providers, nurses, and social workers, the RD collaborates to deliver coordinated, holistic care. This role includes monitoring patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed, and providing ongoing support to encourage lasting, healthy lifestyle changes.

  • Provide individualized nutrition assessments, counseling, and education for prenatal patients
  • Develop and implement nutrition care plans for patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) following Sweet Success protocols
  • Educate and support patients on infant feeding and breastfeeding practices
  • Screen patients for eligibility and participation in food assistance and emergency food programs
  • Collaborate closely with providers and care teams to support healthy pregnancy outcomes
  • Accurately document nutritional assessments, patient progress, and care plans according to CPSP guidelines
  • Use of the Perinatal Food Group Recall (PFGR), weight monitoring, assessment documentation and identifying appropriate nutrition interventions and referrals
  • Interpret and apply weight grids and offer guidance on supporting patients in achieving healthy gain throughout pregnancy
  • Promote patient empowerment through culturally sensitive and patient-centered education

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, clinical nutrition, public health nutrition or a related field
  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) with a passion for women’s health and maternal nutrition
  • Minimum six month’ experience in prenatal care, diabetes education, WIC, FQHC, or community health preferred
  • CPR Certification (including BLS Child, Infant, Adult with one-time hands-on skills training
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Valid California driver's license, current vehicle insurance and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lactation Educator or Consultant certification and/or training

Pay Range

  • $37.00 - $54.00 Depending On Experience
