Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and re-assignments as per policy.
Conduct thorough initial and ongoing assessments of patient health status, including vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition, and report any significant changes to the medical team promptly.
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the patient’s age.
Prepare, safely administer, and document prescribed medications and treatments, including IV therapy, and monitor for any adverse effects.
Provide care for patients recovering from surgery, which includes changing dressings, managing surgical drains, and monitoring for complications.
Competently operate and maintain various medical equipment, such as IV pumps, feeding tubes, catheters, and oxygen tanks.
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians, surgeons, and an interdisciplinary team (e.g., physical therapists, social workers, dieticians).
Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge self-care instructions to ensure a smooth recovery and prevent readmission.
Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of all patient information, interventions, and outcomes in medical records.
Be prepared to respond rapidly and effectively to medical emergencies, providing life-saving interventions when necessary.
Identifies the need for and follows the protocol in managing a RRT
Perform lab draws, order diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, EKGs), and analyze results, collaborating with the healthcare team to adjust care plans accordingly.
Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs are met, and providing emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families during their healthcare journey.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Currently licensed as a Professional Registered Nurse in New York State
Critical Care experience preferred
BCLS/ACLS required
Bachelors preferred
Basic Arrhythmia course preferred
NIHSS CERTIFICATION PLUS 5 CEU HOURS OF STROKE EDUCATION
