Job Description

Schedule/Travel:Full-time, academic year position.  

Shift Available: Three 12-hour shifts, 7 am to 7 pm, with one Saturday and one Sunday per month.

FLSA: Non-exempt

Classification:Staff

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Perform all nursing duties in accordance with the Connecticut State Nursing Act while adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
  • Actively demonstrate a working knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, principles and practice in order to holistically care for the patient/student.
  • Provide emergency care to students, employees or others on Kent School campus as outlined in nursing protocol, using nursing assessment skills.
  • Monitor patient progress and identify any changes in status, acting on those changes to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Thorough documentation of all nursing visits and follow-up care provided for admissions or temporary admissions.
  • Accountability and responsibility for each student admitted until transfer of patient care or shift change.
  • Assist physician in caring for patient, giving a complete and thorough report on patients.
  • Perform routine nursing care, while using age specific and universal precaution practices at all times.
  • Communicate with Kent School employees, students/patients and their families as appropriate with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Able to keep up in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team including the Counseling department and Athletic Trainers.
  • Consistently seek educational tools in order to broaden knowledge base of various age groups, diseases and best practices.
  • Maintain active CT registered nursing license and current BLS certification.
  • Understand the potential to exposure to internal and external hazardous materials including but not limited to blood and BBP, infectious/communicable diseases.

Qualifications:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 2 years of work experience.

  • Provide highest level of nursing care for all of the Kent School community.
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude.
  • Possess a high degree of professionalism.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Must be physically able to respond to any emergency within the Health Center or outside of the Health Center, including moving a patient if deemed necessary.
  • Visual acuity within normal parameters.
  • Requires substantial movement (motions) of wrists, hands, and fingers with keyboard use.
