Duties Description

The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care (CHPC) is seeking a Registered Nurse to actively participate in the development and delivery of educational efforts for hospice and palliative care initiatives across New York State.

This individual will work under the direction of the Center Director, in collaboration with the Health Systems Specialist IV and Clinical Social Worker to:
  • Identify and recommend training needs;
  • Interpret and communicate federal and state regulations from a nursing perspective;
  • Support community-wide efforts to promote advance care planning;
  • Review and analyze research and provider data to promote best clinical practices related to end-of-life care;
  • Collaborate with regional DOH offices responsible for quality assurance and hospice standards of care, taking steps to ensure guidelines are met and model practices communicated;
  • Represent the department at meetings and public forums focused on end-of-life care, working with the Center Director to ensure the goals of the Center are met.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must be a Registered Professional Nurse, with a current license to practice in New York State. The preferred candidate must have exceptional organizational skills, as well as strong time-management, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. The candidate must be comfortable working independently as a self-starter, in addition to taking direction and collaborating as part of a small team. Comfort level with public speaking, both in person and virtually, is critical, including the ability to create training materials and professional content across diverse audiences with varying levels of health literacy. The candidate must have excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, including experience with data systems analysis, required.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal Candidate will be familiar with standards, rules and guidelines governing end-of-life care in either an inpatient or community-based setting. Experience in a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team environment preferred.
