Description

Responsibilities:

The ASU/PACU RN is responsible for the pre-operative and post-operative care of the surgical patient for the department. Multidimensional responsibilities include patient/family teaching and patient care throughout the pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia recovery phases of care. The registered nurse in ASU/PACU is involved in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of perceived, potential or actual problems associated with anesthesia agents and surgical procedures.. 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION

 

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.

 

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum of one year acute care experience as an RN preferred. Recent working experience in acute care ASU/PACU highly preferred. Critical care background is preferred.

 

RECQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

 

Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse. Certified in Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association. ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

 

Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism during stressful times. Strong critical thinking skills. Strong IV therapy skills are preferred.
