ABOUT THE JOB

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides general nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care according to the needs of the patient. This role coordinates and manages patient care through active communication, interaction, and collaboration of patient, family, physicians, health care team and other support services. The RN is responsible for the quality of patient care and nursing practice according to patient care standards within the patient care area and for assuming charge nurse responsibilities when assigned. This position is a .8 FTE with rotating shifts, holidays and every third weekend.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the health care needs of patient/family utilizing nursing assessment tools and available resources.
  • Uses interviewing and observation skills to determine, identify and document common variables and unusual problems affecting care.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan of care using medical and nursing diagnosis, nursing assessment data and current nursing and therapeutic measures.
  • Identifies immediate and long-range implications of nursing activities including, but not limited to, positioning, use of equipment, aseptic technique, use of personal protective equipment.
  • Revises the nursing care plan to reflect the changing needs of the patient.
  • Collaborates with other departments to implement the comprehensive individual patient care plan.
  • Demonstrates consistent ability to manage nursing service problems, emergency situations, and initiates life saving measures in the absence of a physician, within the RN scope of practice.
  • Documents all nursing care delivered per hospital processes, including the patient's response to the care delivered and communicates the implementation of care to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in implementing new policies or procedures and provides support for those already established.
  • Participates in the evaluation of nursing care through participation in Total Quality Management programs or other appropriate review processes.
  • Helps patients and/or staff identify existing problems and explores with them the outcomes of alternative choices.

ABOUT YOU

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Diploma, Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in professional nursing.
  • Current licensure in good standing in the State of Minnesota
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Ability to use all equipment used in the course of providing care, such as: infusing pumps, vital signs monitors, telemetry equipment, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, scales, blood warmers, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical records, including lab results, radiological results, doctors' orders and progress notes.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
  • Ability to identify and defuse tense customer's interactions.
