    Description

    Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by physicians including meds taken by mouth, perspiratory therapy, injections, intravenously and topically. Must document all meds administered, residents' responses, if adverse, to medication; monitor side effect and therapeutic responses. Administer intravenous solutions; this may require the use of volume regulation pump(s). Responsible for order/reorder of residents' meds from pharmacy.
    Prepare and administer therapeutic treatments per nursing or medical direction to treat resident conditions and symptoms. Changing dressing, complex nail care, inhalation therapy, oxygen therapy, heat or hydrotherapy, appliance applications, urinary catheterization, colostomy/ileostomy care, surgical wound care while ensuring a sterile environment is maintained. Monitor therapeutic diets and resident intake of nourishment and fluids.
    Provide continued care by assessing, evaluating and implementing processes to ensure appropriate resident care and outcomes. Perform head-to-toe physical assessments as needed and adjust the nursing plan of care based on the resident's response to this care. Inform the physician, nurse manager and resident's family if the resident's condition is not responding to prescribed treatment. Also keep family informed concerning a death or transfer to the hospital.
    Collect and review labs and consult reports. Collect laboratory specimens of body substances, including blood. Forward specimens to labs for evaluation. Assist physicians with client examinations and carry out or communicate new orders to appropriate providers. Admit/readmit of resident to WRC, including all paperwork and documentation required.
    Trains and assign duties to LPNs and CNAs in carrying out resident care. Check daily to see that care is completed and documents. Inform shift supervisor or nurse manager of any concerns related to employee performance because of inspections. Direct care that includes bathing, linen, clothing, toileting, mobility and personal hygiene care of the residents
    Person in charge in the absence of nursing management. Charge person during fire alarms and disaster preparedness drills for disposition of residents. You must find coverage for employee call-ins. Take charge during fire and disaster drills, as well as actual fire and/or disaster
    Attend meetings and in-service training sessions to increase knowledge of position responsibilities and changing technologies in nursing care. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and training sessions.
    Clean work area and restock supplies as needed. While cleaning and restocking, inform management of any shortages or needs for specialized resident care. Report to maintenance department about any unsafe environmental conditions. Issue repair requisitions for repair of resident appliances/property.

    2. Knowledge of medication administration and complex mathematical calculations for correct dosage.
    3. Knowledge of maintaining medical records, charts, reports and observations.
    4. Knowledge of aging process, medical problems and diseases, behavioral issues.
    5. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws pertaining to health care and Standards of Nursing Practice.
    6. Awareness to react and make decisions in high stress situations and multiple stimuli.
    7. Possess good oral and written communication skills to articulate thoughts and medical terminology.
