Job Description

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to provide essential healthcare services at Chesapeake Juvenile Services.

What You'll Do

  • Provide direct nursing care as a Registered Nurse in a secure juvenile services setting
  • Complete admission physicals and health assessments
  • Conduct sick call and respond to medical needs
  • Administer medications and monitor for adverse reactions
  • Implement physician orders and coordinate follow-up care
  • Provide emergency medical response as needed
  • Assess resident complaints and determine appropriate treatment or referral
  • Deliver medication education and health counseling to residents
  • Serve as a liaison between residents, families, physicians, and staff
  • Maintain accurate medical records, logs, and documentation
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies and medications
  • Prepare medical discharge summaries, as needed

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel as a Registered Nurse
  • Conduct and participate in staff meetings to support communication and problem-solving
  • Provide health-related training to staff

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Requires graduation from an RN diploma program or an associate's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a reciprocal state (according to the Nurse Licensure Compact as prescribed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current CPR, BLS, and First Aid certifications.
  • Relevant experience in delivering clinical care within secure environments, ambulatory care settings, or public health, particularly involving pediatric and adolescent patients.
