Registered Nurse – Correctional Nursing (Night Shift)
Location: Cape Vincent, New York
Position Overview
"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a correctional healthcare setting within a medium-security facility. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to incarcerated individuals, including assessment, treatment, medication administration, and ongoing health monitoring.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, independent decision-making, and the ability to work in a secure and structured environment.
Schedule
- Night Shift
- 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:00)
- Full-time assignment
- Occasional weekend coverage (up to 2 weekends per month)
- Flexible part-time consideration available
Assignment Details
- Contract Duration: 26 weeks
- Selection based on facility bid process (review period may take 7–14 business days after closing date)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient health assessments and identify acute or chronic conditions
- Administer medications and prescribed treatments safely and accurately
- Provide restorative and palliative nursing care as needed
- Conduct EKGs and obtain blood samples (phlebotomy)
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to clinical changes
- Document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
- Educate patients on health maintenance, disease prevention, and compliance with treatment plans
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare and correctional teams
- Ensure adherence to facility protocols, safety procedures, and security guidelines
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (New York State required)
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience post-licensure
- Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills
- Ability to perform EKGs and blood draws
- Comfortable working in a secure correctional environment
