  • Evening Shift Differential: $3.00 per hour
  • Night Shift Differential: $4.00 per hour
  • Day Shift Weekend Differential: $2.90 per hour

  • Night Shift Weekend Differential: $6.90 per hour
  • Charge Nurse Differential: $1.00 per hour

Responsibilities

During internship:

  • All duties and responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provider within the scope of practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) until certification and credentialing are successfully completed.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Collaborate with CRNA to prepare preoperative assessments, including health histories and physical examinations.
  • Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the CRNA and Anesthesiologist.
  • Contribute to appropriate perioperative anesthesia care.
  • Contribute to and monitor appropriate patient records, including quality assurance documentation.
  • Contribute to postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies.
  • Participate in ongoing projects.
  • Support perioperative providers as appropriate.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned.
  • Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines.

Position Requirements

This position involves radiation exposure and the requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to fulfill required weekday, weekend, and holiday obligations. Must be self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and exhibit excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Nursing Specific Info

Intern required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be fully considered and interviewed for the position. Progression to a New Graduate CRNA status is contingent upon satisfaction of all required qualifications.

Required Qualifications

Intern Required Qualifications:

  • Current and accurate resume and application must be completed
  • Minimum of a Masters degree with graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program on or before 09/01/2026
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including but not limited to lead vests and aprons, powered air purifying respirators (PAPR), and N-95 masks
  • Required Qualifications to progress to New Graduate CRNA:
  • Successful completion of the National Certification Exam (NCE) within 45 days of graduating from an accredited CRNA program
  • Michigan Nurse Anesthetist Specialty certification documentation initiated and provided as soon as possible following successful completion of the NCES
  • Successful completion of credentialing and privileging process through Michigan Medicine
  • Satisfactory performance in the Intern role

Desired Qualifications

  • Scheduled date for National Certification Exam secured
  • Five years of adult ICU nursing experience
  • Demonstration of appropriate interpersonal and communication skills
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program in the next 4 months

  • Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time and for any reason throughout the course of employment

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.
