Registered Nurse - CVICU

Duties

• Provide specialized care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) with a patient ratio of 1:2.
• Manage patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, including post-cardiac surgery and those requiring ECMO and ventricular assist devices.
• Float within the ICU community, including CVICU, Med/Surg ICU, and Neuro ICU, to meet facility needs.
• Participate in interdisciplinary support with teams such as IV Teams, Physical Therapy, and Respiratory Services.
• Conduct hemodynamic monitoring, including PA catheter interpretation and analysis.
• Administer and manage IV therapies, including blood product administration and central line care.
• Implement infection prevention and isolation precautions.
• Provide patient care during weekends on a rotational basis, with shifts every other weekend.

Skills

• Experience with cardiovascular procedures such as Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).
• Proficient in Central Venous Pressure Monitoring (CVP), Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Impella management.
• Competent in ECMO, CRRT with Prismaflex, and post-cardiac surgery care directly from the OR.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.
• Expertise in respiratory management, including ventilator care, BiPAP/CPAP management, and arterial blood gas interpretation.
• Knowledge of endocrine/metabolic protocols, such as IV insulin protocols.

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a CVICU or similar intensive care setting.
• Certifications required: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Preferred experience with Epic charting system.
• Travel experience is required, with a preference for candidates with prior travel nursing experience.
• Experience in a teaching or community hospital setting is preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience with Level I or Level II trauma care is not required.
