Summary:
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. A Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Registered Nurse assesses the patients' needs, care plans, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures, and standards. They demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth.
Responsibilities
Collaborates with anesthesia, surgeons and their offices, primary care physicians, specialty providers, patients and families to ensure all pre-operative documentation meets patient optimization for anesthesia and surgery.
3. Identifies patient's/significant other's learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet them. Provides pre-operative education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and courteous manner.
4. Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential patient and family needs and available resources, identifies potential barriers to surgical optimization by reviewing ecg’s, lab results, physical exams; recognizes additional testing required and initiates communication to obtain order.
5. Manages patient and family expectations for peri-operative experience.
6. Coordinates and communicates interdisciplinary functions to facilitate safe and compliant surgical activities.
7. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience:
2-5 years peri-operative nursing experience, excellent organizational skills, strong patient/family education skills
GI: Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience in GI, preop, intra-op, and post-op care.
Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
GI: Member of SGNA, Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates. Specialty certification in CGRN
OR: specialty certification i.e.: ASPAN, CNOR or AORN or Peri-Op 101; prior pre-surgical admission experience
