Work Schedule: Nights with Weekend and Holiday Rotation
Hours: 6:15pm to 6:30am
Summary:
Participates in the overall planning, organizing, directing, decision-making, and evaluation of the delivery of nursing care on their shift. As a professional nurse, the charge nurse is responsible for assisting in the management of resources necessary and appropriate for the provision of achievement of positive patient outcomes. As a professional nurse, the charge nurse participates in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.
The Charge RN will take a patient care assignment to maintain clinical competency at least six (6) full shifts per year.
For Float Pool designated charge: RNs must take a patient assignment if there are not charge nurse needs on any given shift they are working.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited Registered Nursing Program.
Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
BLS, ACLS validation is required within six (6) months
All candidates must meet one (1) of the following additional education requirements:
Nursing certification within eighteen (18) months of hire/transfer
OR
Active/current enrollment in a BSN program with an anticipated graduation date within eighteen months of hire/transfer
OR
BSN
All incumbents will be required to attend and complete a minimum of one (1) Catholic Health University (CHU) courses annually.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum two (2) years recent (within the last 4 years) clinical experience
Once the designated charge nurse has accepted this position, they must commit to active involvement in at least one of the nursing committees (UPC, Nursing Professional Practice, Nursing Research, Shared Governance, or other manager/director approved committee). Active involvement is demonstrated by attendance in at least 75% of nursing committee meetings each year.
Must have all hospital mandatory education requirements up to date at the time of hire into the designated charge nurse role.
Recent, within previous one (1) year, active involvement as a charge RN or RN "primary" preceptor or RN mentor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Demonstrates leadership abilities.
Excellent communication skills.
Certification in specific area preferred. Computer literate.
Competent in current healthcare technology
Actively involved in productivity and staffing
Is a leader in healthcare technology innovations and promotes these innovations in the capacity of super-user / train the trainer.
