Summary The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the ANA scope of practice. The Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Registered Nurse assesses the patients needs, plans care, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards. He or she demonstrates leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth.

Responsibilities

  1. Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated. a. Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patients physical, mental, and emotional status. b. Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving, to include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
  2. Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration, verbalizing to patients/family/significant other the medication they are receiving.
  3. Assesses the patient prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed.
  4. Reassesses and documents response according to hospital policy.
  5. Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks.
  6. Maintains accountability for care delegated.
  7. Actively works to promote a culture of safety.
  8. Assesses patients for potential safety risks.
  9. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety.
  10. Initiates interventions related to the risk factors identified.
  11. Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peer on assigned patients at change of shift.
  12. Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
  13. Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant other.
  14. Plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods.
  15. Assesses and documents patient/family/significant other response to teaching.
  16. Cares for specific patient populations despite location as necessary
  17. Deliver Patient Centered Care
  18. Embrace the cultural diversity and difference of patients and team members.
  19. Respect the dignity of all individuals through the maintenance of the caring relationship.
  20. Maintains open lines of communication, inclusive of active listening.
  21. Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  22. Works to promote a culture of learning and growth.
  23. Seek experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.

  25. Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred
  • Experience: Must have at least one year of Emergency Room RN experience
  • License: Current license issued by New York State to practice as a registered nurse. BLS and ACLS required.
  • Credentials: RN, BLS, ACLS
