Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Charge Nurse
Location: Elmira, NY

Type: Full-Time / Contract / New York State Agency (6-Month Initial Term, up to 2 Years)
Position Summary
Penda Aiken Inc. is a staffing firm located in Brooklyn, New York. Our client is a New York State Agency seeking a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join a mental health clinical team. This role focuses on providing comprehensive physical and mental health care, overseeing shift operations, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu for patients.

This is a fast-paced, high-accountability role requiring high reliability, punctuality, strong leadership skills, and the ability to strictly adhere to regulatory, clinical, and infection control standards.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care: Perform medication administration, conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, and lead patient groups.

  • Shift Oversight & Charge Duties: Serve as Shift Charge Nurse, providing shift supervision and operational direction for Mental Health Therapy Aides.

  • Therapeutic Environment & Crisis Management: Continually evaluate the therapeutic milieu and employ crisis de-escalation techniques or restraints on an as-needed basis in accordance with safety protocols.

  • Documentation & Onboarding: Maintain thorough client documentation and assist with the onboarding and orientation of new nursing and support staff.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure & Credentials: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.

  • Certifications: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification, valid Driver’s License, and completed NYS Mandated Reporter Training.

  • Schedule & Flexibility: Full-time (40 hours per week) with variable days and mandatory weekend work. Primary assignment is on the evening shift (3:00PM - 11:30PM), with flexibility required for other shifts as operational needs arise.

  • Background Clearances: Must successfully pass comprehensive pre-employment background screening, including NYS Child Abuse Registry clearance, Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL) check, and Criminal Background Check.

  • Health & Vaccination Requirements: Must provide proof of immunization for MMR, PPD (TB screening), and annual Influenza vaccination during active flu season.
