Job Title: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Ithaca, NY
Duration: 13 Weeks
Hours: 36 Hours/Week
Shift: Evening/Night – 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM (3x12)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced acute care setting. The RN will deliver comprehensive nursing care, support patients and families, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care within the full scope of RN practice
- Perform patient assessments including physical, psychological, emotional, and educational needs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
- Collect and document patient data accurately
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes promptly
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
- Support patients and families with education and emotional care
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Department Overview:
- Emergency Department with approximately 29 patient care areas (including monitored beds, behavioral health-safe rooms, and hall beds)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 4–5:1, based on acuity
- Dedicated case management and social work support available daily
- Behavioral health evaluations supported by trained emergency personnel
- ED support staff trained in phlebotomy, EKGs, and patient safety monitoring
- Provider coverage includes multiple physicians and advanced practice providers
- Accredited for chest pain care and recognized as a primary stroke center
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 1–2 years of Emergency Department experience preferred
- BLS certification required (ACLS preferred)
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
