Pay: $59.83 – $78.73 per hour
Location: AJ, JDF, SPJ - Auburn & Roseville
Under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and Director of Nursing (DON), the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct and indirect nursing care within the scope of practice defined by the State Board of Nursing.
This includes both traditional RN responsibilities and Health Assessment (H.A.R.N.) duties within a correctional healthcare environment, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant patient care delivery.
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment
Current CPR certification required
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Correctional healthcare experience preferred
Must possess the physical and mental capacity to work in a correctional healthcare environment that may be less than ideal conditions and manage stress effectively.
Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force and frequently push, pull, lift, or move objects, including assisting with patient care needs. Position may require prolonged standing or walking during shift activities.
Follow established nursing processes and systems in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, performance standards, and accreditation requirements
Collaborate with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and Director of Nursing (DON) to coordinate healthcare delivery within the facility
Utilize all functions and applications of the electronic health record (EHR) relevant to the position with minimal supervision and assist with staff training as requested
Communicate effectively with clinical staff, custody staff, patients, and leadership at all levels of the organization
Demonstrate professional practice consistent with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and nursing standards
Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies, including performing CPR until properly relieved
Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, assessments, and clinical observations
Assist with examinations, treatments, triage, and daily sick call
Perform minor medical and surgical procedures as directed and within scope of practice
Monitor patient conditions and promptly report changes to appropriate healthcare providers
Initiate and document prescribed treatment protocols in accordance with policies and procedures
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing staff, providers, custody, and leadership
Support streamlined healthcare operations within the correctional facility
Assist with disaster preparedness and emergency response activities, including participation in drills
Observe and evaluate performance of Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing staff as assigned
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations related to healthcare delivery services
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in evaluating clinical service effectiveness
Support development of systems to enhance patient care and safety
Maintain compliance with continuing education requirements and NCCHC standards
Demonstrate professionalism, emotional maturity, objectivity, and sound judgment under pressure
Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment
Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings as required
Escalate critical issues that may impact patient care, operations, or compliance to appropriate leadership
