Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Correctional

Position Summary
Penda Aiken Inc. is a staffing firm located in Brooklyn, New York. Our client is a New York State Agency and is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse professional to join their medical team. The successful candidate will provide essential nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with an established, systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care. All services must comply fully with regulatory standards within a secure juvenile correctional environment.

This is a critical role requiring high reliability, punctuality, and the ability to operate effectively within a structured setting while maintaining meticulous medical compliance and safety standards.
Facility Overview
The placement is at the Goshen Secure Center (GSC), located approximately 50 miles northwest of New York City in Orange County (Goshen, NY). GSC is an American Correctional Association-accredited facility serving a current population of approximately 53 male juvenile offenders. Depending upon sentencing, youth may remain in custody until the age of 21.

  • Safety & Support: Supervision staff are consistently present on-site when the employee is providing direct nursing care to youth.

  • Environment Perks: Free parking is provided on-site. Dress code is professional business casual or medical scrubs. There are currently no vaccine requirements for this position.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Medical Inventory Management: Maintain general medical inventory control, including strict accountability and tracking of controlled substances.

  • Medication Administration: Safely and accurately conduct medication administration protocols for facility youth.

  • Intervention Planning: Review overall health conditions of youth by preparing, reviewing, and evaluating detailed nursing intervention plans.

  • Care Alignment: Ensure all nursing interventions align fluidly with established comprehensive treatment plans.

  • Infection Control: Maintain high institutional standards of infection control throughout the medical unit.

  • Reporting: Accurately prepare required clinical data, records, and administrative reports.

  • Collaborative Care: Serve as an active, collaborative member of the facility’s medical treatment team and participate in mandatory staff trainings. (Additional duties to be discussed in detail during the interview process).
Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure: Must be currently Licensed and Registered to practice nursing (RN) in the State of New York.

Background Investigation Requirements
Due to the secure nature of the facility, all candidates must satisfy the following vetting processes prior to a confirmed start date (all associated fees are paid directly by the state; no out-of-pocket reimbursement is required):

  1. Criminal Background Check (CBC): Fingerprinting and state/federal criminal history record verification.

  2. Statewide Central Register (SCR): Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.

  3. Staff Exclusion List (SEL): Clearance check against the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs database.

    Forms will be administered immediately upon candidate selection, after which the state will coordinate fingerprint scheduling directly with the candidate.
