Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Position Overview:
Join The University of Kansas Health System’s dedicated labor and delivery team as a Registered Nurse. In this full-time role, you will play a vital part in providing exceptional maternal and neonatal care in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Shift Details:
  • Full-time night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Rotating weekend schedule (every other weekend)
  • On-call responsibilities as needed, no more than one shift per week
  • Rotating holiday coverage

Compensation:
  • Hourly rate: $30.00 – $36.50, based on experience and qualifications
  • Shift differentials:
    • Evening (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM): +$2.30/hour
    • Night (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM): +$3.75/hour
    • Weekend (Friday 7:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM): +$3.00/hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to obstetric patients, mothers, and newborns during labor, delivery, and postpartum stages
  • Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs, responding promptly to changes
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and comfort
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
  • Educate patients and families on labor, postpartum care, and newborn care
  • Document all patient interactions accurately and thoroughly in accordance with hospital policies

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; new graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Valid Kansas Registered Nurse license (KRN)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; must be obtained within the first two weeks of employment
  • Advanced certifications required within specified timeframes:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six months
    • Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) within one year
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within six months

Preferred Skills:
  • Prior labor and delivery or maternal-child health experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations
