Registered Nurse (RN) – Ambulatory Surgery Center

Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Status: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, patient-centered perioperative care at a novice RN level in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic standards. This role supports clinical operations, quality and safety initiatives, and exceptional customer service within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Clinical Activities (50%)

• Provides direct patient care following the nursing process, including assessments, examinations, and treatments
• Delivers care in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act and professional nursing standards
• Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the medical record
• Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and ethical nursing practice
• Participates in preoperative patient calls and routine unit safety checks
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
• Performs additional duties as assigned by nursing leadership

2. Quality & Safety (20%)

• Adheres to all regulatory, accreditation, and professional practice standards
• Coordinates and adapts care for patients with complex clinical needs
• Identifies and reports near misses, safety concerns, and variances
• Actively supports quality improvement and performance initiatives
• Maintains a safe, clean, and compliant unit environment

3. Customer Service (30%)

• Communicates delays and changes in care with empathy and clarity
• Demonstrates patient advocacy and addresses clinical or ethical concerns appropriately
• Builds and maintains professional relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
• Assesses patient satisfaction and contributes to service excellence
• Educates patients on ASC policies and procedures to prevent misunderstandings
• Consistently demonstrates alignment with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic’s Mission, Vision, and Values

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room
• Preferred experience in one or more of the following settings:
  • Pre-Op
  • Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)
  • Emergency Room (ER)
  • Infusion Therapy
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) or hospital setting

Service Line Experience

• Experience with at least one service line, including:
  • Orthopedic Joint
  • ENT
  • Gynecology
  • General Surgery
  • Plastics

Licenses & Certifications

• Active Texas Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Additional Requirements

• Basic computer proficiency
• Flexibility and willingness to learn and support all service lines
