Under general supervision the Staff RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Medical Center of Lewisville. In collaboration with patient, patient’s family and other members of the health care team, the clinical RN is responsible for assessing the nursing care needs of patients, planning interventions and evaluating outcomes of care. The RN provides direct care and/or supervises nursing care of LVN’s and non-licensed nursing staff. The RN is responsible for providing care consistent with the Nursing Department’s policies, procedures and standards of practice.
RN’sare responsible for providing care, which is appropriate to the age specific (adolescent, adult and geriatric patients), developmental and safety needs of the assigned patient population. In addition to the RN duties and responsibilities, the RN scope includes charge duties. Theclinical supervisor or charge nurse makes patient assignments and supervises and directs the staff and unit activities for the assigned shift.
Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care needs of the patient.
Document nursing care in compliance with policies procedures and practices established by the Nursing Department and the hospital.
Initiates prescribed treatment plan.
Initiate and carry out nursing plan of care.
Administers medications, blood and blood products.
Provides for activities of daily living for patients.
Conducts accurate, timely assessment of patients utilizing FIMs scoring.
Transport patients.
Maintenance of peripheral and central lines, pic lines, medi ports.
Management of post operative pain.
Management of neuraxial analgesia.
Management of traction and orthopedic conditions.
Management of general surgery patients.
Management of medical patients.
Assessment and treatment of post-op complications.
Provision of pre-operative and post operative nursing care.
Provision of pre-operative and post operative patient teaching and education related to specific surgical procedures or adaptations in health status resulting from treatment.
Participation in discharge planning.
Provision of emotional support for patients and families based on the assessments of their coping skills.
Performance of nursing care in compliance with safety policies and procedures established by the hospital and Nursing Department.
Perform special assignments as needed/requested.
Serves as a clinical resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care
Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of patients.
Performs nursing care consistent with the needs of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring treatment and care for pre and post surgical conditions.
Attend staff meetings and inservices.
