Registered Nurse – Inpatient Surgical Unit

A 523-bed full-service acute care hospital in Gainesville is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its inpatient surgical unit. This Joint Commission–accredited facility is a Comprehensive Stroke Center and an Accredited Chest Pain Center, with additional Blue Distinction designations in Spine and Bariatric Surgery. The hospital offers a wide range of specialty services including cardiovascular care, oncology, orthopedics, neurosciences, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, women’s health, and wound care.

This role involves providing direct nursing care to post-operative and surgical patients within a fast-paced acute care environment. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s surgical recovery needs across multiple specialties.

Daily responsibilities include ongoing patient monitoring, coordination with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, timely and accurate documentation, and consistent education of patients and families to support recovery and discharge readiness. The role requires strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage a diverse surgical patient population.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required (any acute care setting, including LTAC and home health)

• Active Florida RN license or compact RN license required (compact license holders must obtain Florida licensure within 60 days of relocation)

• Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required prior to start

• NIH Stroke Scale certification required within 30 days of hire

• Basic Cardiac Life Support required within 30 days of hire

Schedule:

• Full-time

• Night shift

• Rotating weekends

Compensation:

• $29.73 – $43.20 per hour

• Night shift differential: $4.25/hr

• Weekend differential: $3.00/hr
