This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health- Inpatient Services, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Registered Nurse, Institutional, under limited supervision, you will develop, implement, and manage the Risk Management Program for G.W. Bryan Hospital (civil, forensics, C&A Services), and Morris Village to reduce or eliminate potential harm to patients and staff, or financial loss for the hospital system.

Responsibilities for the Registered Nurse, Institutional:

  • Develop and implement the Risk Management Program in a manner that complies with state and federal laws and certification and/or accreditation standards related to safety and risk management.
  • Develop and implement systems, policies and procedures for the identification, collection and analysis of risk related information.
  • Collect, evaluate, and maintain data concerning patient safety and other risk-related data. Maintain the incident reporting database; monitor compliance with incident reporting procedures and recommend corrective actions when indicated.
  • Investigate and analyze root causes, patterns, or trends. Help to identify and implement corrective action where appropriate.
  • Monitor and review progress against corrective actions plans resulting from incident reviews/ investigations.
  • Provide statistical information on clinical incidents for reports as needed; provide a monthly Risk Management report to the Performance Improvement Committee.
  • Responsible for the development of appropriate risk management policies and procedures; monitor and review policies and procedures on a routine basis to ensure continued compliance with statutory, certification, and accreditation requirements.
  • Actively participate in or facilitate committees related to risk management, safety, and performance improvement.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related experience.
  • A bachelors degree in nursing and two (2) years of experience, one of which must be in a nursing specialty appropriate to the mission of the employing facility.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel (short distances) between inpatient hospital/program sites.
  • Ability to ambulate/move about freely.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years professional experience in the healthcare field and/or hospital risk management.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
