    Job Summary


    In the ICU of a hospital, patients are often in critical condition and need constant monitoring and care. ICU nurses review data from special equipment to track a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other vitals. They also carry out more traditional nursing duties such as administering medications and communicating with patients regarding their condition.


    Essential Functions



    • Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects.

    • Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs.

    • Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary.

    • Transcribes, verifies and carries out physician orders in an accurate and timely manner

    • Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately.

    • Initiates and effectively maintains IV therapy.

    • Follows the 5 “rights” when administering medications.

    • Coordinates patient care and verifies, coordinates and carries out physicians orders accurately.

    • Coordinates interdepartmental activities (i.e. lab, radiology, etc).To ensure timely, efficient care.

    • Coordinates interdepartmental transfer smoothly and efficiently.

    • Communicates and coordinates with Case Manager to ensure timely discharge, patient satisfaction and quality care along the continuing of care

    Minimum Education/Certifications

    Graduate of an accredited program in nursing.


    Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of NJ.


    Certifications required: BLS (American Heart Association). ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification preferred.


    Minimum Work Experience

    2 year or more experience in an acute care setting preferred.


    Vent Care Experience.


    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
