Job Summary

This is a Labor and Delivery travel nursing position on a high-acuity, fast-paced Birthing Care Unit. The Birthing Care Unit includes an obstetrical triage unit to allow for screening of patients prior to admission and to perform routine outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, intravenous hydration, and medication administration. Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean Births and rescue cervical cerclage are performed on this unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide intrapartum and high-risk antepartum and postpartum care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater.

  • Float as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit.
  • Circulate to OR as needed (strongly preferred).
  • Perform sterile vaginal exams.
  • Provide competent immediate newborn care.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience to be comfortable working on this unit, as it can be challenging for less experienced nurses; 3 years preferred.
  • Must have experience with facilities performing greater than 300 births per month.
  • Experience in a large/high-volume Labor and Delivery setting (required for first-time travelers).
  • Ability to circulate to OR.
  • Competency in sterile vaginal exam.
  • Competency in immediate newborn care.
  • Proficiency with unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.

Education Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required.

  • Average 20 births in 24 hours; 30 40 admits per day; 40 visits/day; 20 rooms.
  • Patient ratios: 2:1.
  • Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence.
  • May not be realistic for nurses to take 48-hour contracts on this unit due to how busy it is.
  • Unit will accept 13 26 week contracts.
  • 12-hour night shifts: 18:45 07:15.
  • RTO: 7 days maximum for AYA Auto Offer.
  • Call requirement: None.

  • Scrubs provided (blue).
  • Unit orientation: 24.0 hours.
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only).

Important Notes
