Summary:

The lactation lead is a certified lactation consultant who is a registered nurse. The lactation lead is responsible for applying the nursing process in the care of the breastfeeding mothers and their infants. The focus is on the clinical support of their lactation needs, encouragement, education and consultation in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. The lactation lead is responsible for developing and measuring quality assurance plans to improve the breastfeeding program and breastfeeding rates. The lactation lead will be an expert in their field using evidence-based practice to drive quality. The lactation leadwill develop and coordinate education for the staff involved in caring for the breastfeeding dyad.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Current New York State Nursing License required
  • BSN preferred
  • Current and sustained certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
  • Current Basic Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program within six months of placement in the position

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the field of lactation consultation within the past 2 years
  • RN experience in the field of Maternal Child

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Demonstrated clinical ability
  • Excellent communication skills.
