Job Summary:
E4000 is a 30 bed dynamic unit providing excellent care to a wide variety of patients: hepatic, thoracic and bariatric surgeries, respiratory disease, ENT, chronic vents, chest tubes, vascular, GI bleeds, whipple, trachs, sepsis, etc. The floor tends to be more surgical than medical. The length of stay is 24 hours to 7-10 days, but most are 3-4 days. The nurse patient ratio is 4-6 on nights, and 3-4 on days and eves. Within E4000, the Med Surg Progressive Care Unit (the first PCU at Abbott!) focuses on sepsis, DKA, GI bleeds and chronic vent patients who need a higher level of care than Med Surg but not ICU. E4000 is welcoming, supportive and a great place for new nurses to learn a lot and be challenged with critical thinking with the manager noting "we will help you!" There are about 75 new grads on the floor and they do really well! There are also some nurses with 35+ years of experience. There are skill days, check ins with your manager, and a talking out loud/speak up culture. People are engaged (new nurses learning from senior nurses and also teaching new things to senior nurses), involved in unit committees, and enjoy activities outside of work as well.
