A 267-bed acute care hospital in Fort Walton Beach is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its Medical-Surgical unit. This facility provides a wide range of services, including an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, Cancer Care Center, open-heart surgery, a main emergency department, pediatric ER, and additional freestanding emergency departments.

Position Overview

The Med-Surg RN delivers comprehensive nursing care to hospitalized adult patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, consistent attention to patient status changes, and the ability to provide safe, effective care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

A strong focus of this role is patient and family education, ensuring individuals clearly understand diagnoses, treatments, medications, side effects, and discharge instructions in an accessible and supportive manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments at admission and throughout each shift
• Identify and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the care team
• Administer medications and monitor therapeutic response and adverse effects
• Perform provider-ordered procedures and clinical monitoring
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnoses, medications, and discharge planning
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
• Support patient safety and quality care delivery in an inpatient setting

Qualifications

• Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required (any setting, including non-acute care)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, and assessment skills

Schedule

• Day shift or night shift available
