    Description

    A 500+ bed acute care hospital in Salem is seeking a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse to join its inpatient nursing team. The facility provides comprehensive services, including advanced heart and vascular care through a designated Heart Center, orthopedics and spine care, behavioral health services, and oncology.

    Position Overview

    The Medical-Surgical RN is responsible for delivering direct patient care across a diverse inpatient population. This role involves ongoing assessment, medication administration, coordination with interdisciplinary teams, and patient and family education to support recovery and continuity of care.

    Nurses in this role may work across multiple units, including Oncology and Orthopedic Trauma, with opportunities for cross-training in different acute care specialties.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments throughout the shift
    • Identify and communicate changes in patient condition to the care team
    • Administer medications and monitor patient response and potential adverse effects
    • Carry out provider-ordered treatments and clinical procedures
    • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation
    • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
    • Translate complex clinical information into clear, understandable language
    • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
    • Support safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing practice
    • Participate in cross-training across multiple acute care units

    Qualifications

    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire
    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
    • Willingness to cross-train across units required
    • Acute care experience preferred but not required

    Schedule

    • Full-time position
    • Mixed night shifts
    • Rotating weekends required
