  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 3 months
  • Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Nights 3x12 Hours (18:45 07:15)

Job Summary

This is a Medical Surgical/Oncology travel nursing contract role serving primarily Medical Surgical patients with Oncology history. The manager is seeking Med/Surg skilled RNs for this MS/Onc unit. Contract staff will be assigned equally to the home unit staff to ensure that patients are covered with a registered nurse.

Key Responsibilities

  • Care for a patient population with general medical-surgical diagnoses, including AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
  • Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection as assigned
  • Maintain target patient ratios of 1:6; during times of increased census, typical ratios may be higher
  • Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED, or any alternate medical patient care location
  • Work every other weekend as required
  • Meet call requirements: call is required if called off on a prescheduled shift; shifts called out will need to have make-up shifts rescheduled
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Be subject to consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract and may be preassigned to units as needed
  • Utilize unit systems including PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR for medication administration, documentation, and communication
  • Complete unit orientation of 24 hours (2 shifts)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Experience in an inpatient setting required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Daily Census: 42
  • Patient Diagnoses: General medical-surgical diagnosis primary patient population; administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection)
  • Scrubs: Navy Blue and White
  • Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location
  • Every other weekend required
  • Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
  • Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster (Storm Team/Hurricane Team)
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Important Notes

  • RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
  • Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster.
  • Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.
  • Local candidates accepted.
