Reporting to the Senior Program Director, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing medical support and supervision for the elderly program and its participants. The Registered Nurse will also provide training to staff and referral information and education to participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in referral, medical assessment, and discharge or termination of clients.
Participate in the development, evaluation, monitoring and revision of medical issues pertaining to the individualized rehabilitation plans.
Provides consultation and training staff.
Participates in the process to privilege staff to perform specific duties.
Serves as a liaison and consultant to medical community.
Monitors medication policies and procedures.
Administers medications, applies/changes dressings, conducts vital sign checks, reviews medical tests and makes referrals for follow-up patient care as required.
Monitors client physicals and makes recommendations.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
Ensures the monitoring of the medical status of participants.
Ensures compliance with contractual and state regulations relating to medical services.
Maintains an effective relationship with other community providers to ensure that program participants receive needed medical services.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful applicant will be a Registered Nurse
Will have three years working with individuals with mental illness
Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, standards, practices and techniques of nursing services;
knowledge of the dangers inherent in and the precautions to be taken in the use of somatic and psychotropic medications;
knowledge of the treatment, diagnostic, immunization and related medical services for the chronically mentally ill patient;
knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies pertaining to nursing services;
ability to assign and supervise the work of nonprofessional medical personnel and to instruct them in practices and techniques;
ability to accurately maintain patient medical records and prepare reports;
ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
The applicant must also maintain their own professional liability insurance and carry VOA Chesapeake, Inc. as an additional insured. VOA Chesapeake, Inc. will reimburse the employee the cost of the additional annual premium.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to transport oneself and/or equipment as necessary
The physical ability to travel to assigned locations, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, pull, push, lift, grasp, climb, talk, see, hear and perform basic and light home maintenance activities and operate office equipment.
Move and lift objects up to 30 pounds such as computers, monitors, files, etc.
Operate office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements.
The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
