Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract (Travel Nursing)
  • Contract Duration: 4 months
  • Pay Rate: $61.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Nights, 6:45 PM 7:15 AM (4x12 hours); 13 20 weeks accepted; 36 or 48 hours per week

Job Summary

This is a travel nursing contract position for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) at a healthcare facility in Wilmington, NC. The unit operates on a self-scheduling model with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6 and accepts first-time travelers as well as local candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to a diverse patient population including diagnoses such as diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, various surgical recovery cases, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
  • Interpret and manage dysrhythmias and perform remote telemetry monitoring
  • Utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as indicated
  • Manage and care for patients with bowel obstructions, colostomy/ileostomy, feeding tubes, renal failure, and pre/post hemodialysis needs
  • Administer blood products and manage central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC lines, and IV starts and maintenance
  • Administer and manage heparin, insulin, and PCA
  • Manage chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, and oxygen tanks
  • Maintain isolation precautions/PPE and perform wound care including wound vac management
  • Document using the Pyxis medication system
  • Float to main campus (NHRMC, approximately 32 minutes away) as required
  • Work every other weekend as required
  • Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments; contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Adapt to potential mid-contract consolidation to a Centralized Office, with possible pre-assignment to units as needed

Education Requirements

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience (hard requirement no exceptions)

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Night shift: 6:45 PM 7:15 AM, 4x12-hour shifts
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Float requirement: Traveler may be required to float to main campus, approximately 32 minutes away
  • Self-scheduling unit
  • Scrub color: Navy blue or white
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
  • Contract staff will be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Mid-contract consolidation to a Centralized Office may occur; contract staff may be pre-assigned to units as needed

Important Notes

  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
  • HARDSTOP: Minimum 2 years of experience required; 7 days MAX RTO per contract; must be able to work holidays; no block schedules unless a weekend block
  • RTO limit: 7 days MAX per contract
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Manager interview required before offer; please provide candidate's interview availability for the next 72 hours when submitting
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers
  • Local candidates accepted
